Okay losers, listen up. I’m tired of arguing why this movie is great and why that movie sucks. Time to settle it once and for all. This is the list of the movies that I think are the greatest of all-time. There are a very many good movies I have not seen yet, so the list only includes those that I did watch. This list stands as of March 2008, and it won’t include anything I will watch after today.

Thriller



Memento
A narrative with a method only possible on film. Absolutely brilliant.
The Prestige
The intrigue, the mystery, the setting. The Prestige is by far the most intelligent and jaw-dropping magician movie.
The Departed
Does the job of thrilling quite well, with an excellent performance from an excellent cast.
Runner-up: Blood Diamond
Sci-fi



Minority Report
Great premise, great ending.
The Matrix
A wealth of scientific concepts and philosophy wrapped up in a kick-ass action flick.

Shaun of the Dead
Leave it to the British for some pretty good humor
Harold and Kumar go to Whitecastle
A tad vulgar, but funny.
Borat
Kudos to Mr. Cohen and his beloved character and misadventures.
Runner-up: Futurama: Bender’s Big score, School of Rock
The Worst: Meet the Spartans, Balls of Fury, and many more

A moral story far from the typical, predictable, and impersonal.
American Beauty
Brilliantly written, performed and filmed.
Babel
It pierces and stings. Everything in this movie is very believable, reminding you that your life could have been worse.

A love story in a league of its own. Beautiful, and unforgettable.
Lost in Translation
Sets itself apart from cliches and formulas of any kind.
A Walk to Remember
Makes you wonder why they make romantic comedies in the first place.
The Worst: Elizabethtown
Psychological Thriller



Fight Club
A modern masterpiece of the genre.
The Sixth Sense
Original, with an effective twist.
Donnie Darko
Superhero



Incredibles
Action scenes great, humor isn’t lame, well directed all in all.
Spiderman 2
Very down to earth, no lame mysteries, no typical villains, just good story-telling.
Batman Begins
Knowing they would make a sequel, they could’ve shredded this movie dry. But they gave it everything they got.
Runner-up: Daredevil
The Worst: Jumper, Next, Fantastic Four, Hulk
Animated


Ratatouille
Very original and well executed. Is there anything the geniuses of Pixar can do wrong? Found myself heart-warmed.
Spirited Away
A unique protagonist thrust into a truly imaginative enchanted world which spellbindingly captures you.
Mask of the Phantasm
Worth more than its production values.
Runner-up: Renaissance, Priness Mononoke

Compelling, emotional, and an amazing performance by Adrien Brody.

Letters from Iwo Jima
How do you make a movie about a losing battle? This one would make a great answer.

Return of the King
It doesn’t get anymore epic than this.
Pan’s Labyrinth
Well-executed and unique blend of war and fantasy. The fact that it was in Spanish made it more authentic to the setting, hence more beautiful.
The Worst: Eragon, Dungeons and Dragons
Action



Hot Fuzz
Clever, slick, snappy, good comedy too.
Sin City
Visually gripping modern film noir.
Kill Bill vol. 2
Fight sequences good, story original.
The Worst: Pathfinder, Rush Hour 3

Oceans Twelve
Comedy, Thriller. I believe that this movie is very underrated.
Sweeney Todd
Musical, Gore. Masterfully performed and filmed.
Guilty Pleasures

What can I say? Its cool.

I remember laughing my intestines out watching this.
