• Spring 2007 and me

Here I am in the first semester after transferring to Towson University, Maryland USA. The university was nice enough to give a set of recommended subjects to enroll based on my progress and all five of them nicely propel me to graduation. Fantastic. But wait till you hear what the subjects actually are.

    MCOM214 – Principles of Advertising
    MCOM255 – Newswriting
THEA103 – Introduction to American Theatre
POSC107 – Introduction to International Relations
PHYS131 – Light and Color (Physics)

Note that my major is Mass Communications with Advertising track. The first two are my major subjects (meaning subjects that belong to my major) but the other three are totally irrelevant. If you know the American education system, you’ll know that everybody needs to have a set general education subjects. So my mix of subjects is not so weird after all. But wait till you see my books.

    From left:
    1. Contemporary Advertising: That’s for MC214. No explanation necessary.
    2. Writing and Reporting News: For MC255. I got that off Amazon. Feels cool buying stuff online.
    3. International Politics: For POSC107. Got that online too. Notice that it’s still vacuum sealed.
    4. The AP Stylebook: For MC255. This is the bible for journalists. Seriously.
    5. Taking Sides: Another POSC107 book. States international issues that has arguable yeses and nos. Boring.
    6. Angels in America: For THEA103. It’s about a gay dude. Haven’t read it.
    7. The Red Letter Plays: THEA103. One of the plays in it is called ‘Fucking A’. Believe it.
    8. Metamorphoses: THEA103. Haven’t read it.
    9. Machinal: THEA103. Notice the amount of theater books? It’s killing me.
    10. *Women Who Kill: It’s for my theater analysis of Machinal, which is based on a murderer. Crazy.
    11. *Ethnicity-Racism, Class and Culture: POSC107. For my paper. It’s a political thing.
    12. *Rites of Belonging: Also for my POSC107 paper. I’ll reveal my topic later.
    13. *Malaysia-A Country study: See no. 12. I think you can guess my topic by now.
    14. *Introduction to Stage Lighting: For THEA103 final project. It’s really killing me.
    15. *The Stage Lighting Handbook: See no. 14.
    16. *A companion to Twentieth-Century America Drama: For my Machinal analysis. ITS KILLING ME. THEATER SHOULDNT BE THIS HARD.

    Not in picture, just borrowed.
    17. *Mahathir Mohamad-Achieving True Globalism: For POSC107 paper
    18. *The Myth of the Lazy Native: See no.17.
    19. *The May Thirteenth Incident: See no.18. If you still cannot guess my topic, don’t bother.

    *=Borrowed from library.

Is my selection of books odd enough for you?
